ESG

Environmental
action

It is possible to operate a successful company while being kinder to the planet. We’re committed to minimizing our environmental impact.

Powerful partnerships and programs

Our third-party partnerships help us ensure we’re learning from industry best practices and implementing environmental initiatives that create real and lasting change.

The Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP)

The Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP) is a not-for-profit organization that certifies sustainability in printing and packaging facilities. Certification involves publicly available, industry-specific criteria and third-party auditors.

Seven of our facilities are SGP-certified. This means a documented sustainability management system (SMS) has been developed and implemented in each of them.

An SMS is a set of written procedures and best practices that drive continuous improvement in energy and raw material usage, carbon emissions, and chemical and waste management.

Together these procedures ensure implementation of our ESG Policy. By auditing our SMS each year, we’re able to measure our ESG performance. Our findings are uploaded to our SGP Impact Tracker, a web-based tool that enables us to plot our performance over time and track the trends in any of our metrics.

Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)

Through SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative), DCM has implemented an action plan to achieve science-based targets for carbon emission reductions.

From 2020 to 2022, we reduced our emissions by 20.5% based on 2020 data.

We plan to reach our 2030 target of a 44% energy reduction through steady migration to renewable energy. And by purchasing renewable energy credits, we’re investing in the development of renewable energy infrastructure that will become a permanent part of Canada’s electricity grid.

The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®)

The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) is a third-party certification program for well-managed forests. By participating in FSC, DCM is ensuring harvested trees are replaced through sustainable forestry practices that are rigorously verified by third-party auditing.

DCM has been FSC-certified since 2007. Using FSC-certified paper is an important way we help maintain sustainable supply chains.

FSC-certified forests also maintain and conserve forest ecosystem services, uphold the rights of Indigenous peoples, and maintain high conservation values.

PrintReleaf

PrintReleaf is an international reforestation program that uses innovative software to replant trees used in print production.

Clients can share updates on their sustainability efforts via QR codes on printed material, and by posting PrintReleaf logos, links, and certifications online and on social platforms. With a quick scan or click, their customers can instantly see how many trees have been replanted around the world through the program.

Our lighting retrofit

To support our SBTi targets for carbon reduction, DCM is undergoing an extensive lighting retrofit at our five largest facilities across Canada.

This will see older lighting replaced with new, energy-efficient technology—dramatically reducing our energy consumption, and helping us lower our greenhouse gas emissions.

Clear ESG targets

Less carbon

We’re committed to minimizing our carbon footprint, working toward a 44% reduction by 2030.

More trees

We’re aiming to plant 500,000 trees a year in collaboration with PrintReleaf.

Less waste

Our goal is to realise an absolute reduction in solid waste and increase diversion from landfill via a solid waste audit and action plan.

Good governance

As a publicly traded company, we meet the highest standards of corporate accountability and information security.

Let’s talk about marketing that supports your sustainability goals.
