With Health Canada’s shifting regulations around cannabis production, many cannabis producers struggle to maintain compliance with quality control measures, facility qualifications, labelling requirements and more. All of these challenges can significantly impact and disrupt supply chain, but packaging labels can be a particularly difficult obstacle, especially with limited line-of-sight into product availability.
Labels must meet strict rules around product information—including THC content, lot numbers, “packaged on” dates, expiry dates, and unique barcodes, so responsive printing solutions are key. With their limited quantities, dynamic information, and quick turnaround requirements, these labels are outside the capabilities of traditional CPG labelling, in which mass runs are the norm. Many cannabis producers turned to DCM to develop a new, more flexible solution that would enable them to adapt to changing production schedules and keep their supply chain moving, while mitigating the risk of incorrect or non-compliant packaging labels.
