Power Up Profile: Valérie Tanguay

A native of Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, Valérie Tanguay has made great strides on the green since first taking up golf at age 13. She was her high school golf team’s MVP in 2013 and again in 2014, and that same year was named athlete of the year at Cegep Champlain St. Lawrence. She then went on to play NCAA golf at the University of Oklahoma, where she graduated with an accounting degree. Currently pursuing her LPGA tour card, she now has a distinct competitive advantage as a recipient of the DCM Power Up Bursary.

“I have always wanted to represent my country on the LPGA tour,” she says enthusiastically. Power Up is getting her even closer to achieving that goal.

Established in 2018, the Power Up Bursary is an annual award that significantly boosts the careers of promising female golfers through financial assistance; increased player visibility; training and skill development; sponsorship coaching; and marketing and PR training. Driven by DCM’s commitment to support women’s professional development, the Bursary gives Canadian female golfers who are on the brink of LPGA Tour status greater opportunities to achieve success.

Tanguay has also participated in the DCM PGA Women’s Championship of Canada. First established in 1987, the Championship has played host to some of golf’s most talented female players, including Lorie Kane, Brooke Henderson, Alena Sharp, Cathy Sherk, Gail Graham, Nancy Harvey, and Jessica Shepley. DCM become the lead sponsor of this landmark women’s golf event in 2017.

For Tanguay, the Power Up Bursary comes at the perfect time. “I am now at a crucial point in my career,” she says. “I spend countless hours on the golf course and in the gym, working to take my game to the next level. I want to reach the highest rank in the pro golf tournaments.”

We’re right behind you, Valérie, and are proud to provide this opportunity to further your career. Best of luck as you pursue your LPGA goals.
