Power Up Bursary Winner Trades Financial Stress For Success

Selena Costabile is one of five talented golfers to receive a DCM Power Up Bursary in 2018. Thanks to the bursary’s financial assistance, marketing support, and many other benefits, Costabile has been diligently honing her skills – and has managed to improve her drive by 20 yards.

“I worked all winter on my drive,” she says, explaining that the bursary has lifted a huge weight from her shoulders and helped her concentrate on her game. “I’m now able to cover entrance fees and other payments for tournaments, and that is allowing me to think more about my golf.”

She says the social media mentoring she received as part of the bursary was also very useful. “I learned better ways to manage my account, and got great advice on how to develop my personal brand.”

Costabile worked with club pros throughout her teens, and upon graduating from high school in 2016, was offered impressive golf scholarships from several U.S. colleges, including Duke University and the University of Michigan. However, she also wanted to focus on her education, so she opted for a distance-learning program offered by Queen’s University. Currently completing her degree in Global Development, she also speaks five languages and is a classically trained pianist – all while pursuing a career in professional golf.

Her exceptional ambition and determination have carried her far, and we look forward to seeing her accomplishments in the season to come.
